Pioneer Home LLC serves adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Building a website that works for the people we serve and their families is not optional — it is the work. This statement explains where we are with that work today, what to expect, and how to reach us if something is not working for you.
Our standard
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA across this entire website.
What we have done
- Semantic structure. Pages use headings, landmarks, and labelled regions so screen readers can navigate quickly.
- Keyboard support. All interactive elements — links, buttons, the menu, the contact form, the FAQ accordion — can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone. A visible focus ring shows where you are.
- Skip link. The first interactive element on every page lets keyboard users jump straight to the main content.
- Colour contrast. The colour palette is tuned for a minimum 4.5:1 contrast on body text, exceeding the WCAG AA requirement.
- Reduced motion.Every scroll-triggered animation (fades, image reveals, parallax, smooth scroll) is automatically disabled when your operating system has “reduce motion” turned on.
- Image alternatives. Every meaningful image carries an alt description.
- Responsive design. The site adapts from a 320 px phone screen up to a 4 K monitor, and supports browser zoom up to 200 % without breaking the layout.
- Form accessibility. The contact form uses persistent labels, clear error messages near the relevant field, and appropriate aria attributes for assistive technologies.
Known limitations
We are not perfect yet. Areas we are still improving:
- The embedded Google Maps frame on the Contact page does not fully inherit our accessibility standards. The office address is also available as plain text directly above the map.
- Some stock photography may include subtle text within the image itself that is not transcribed in the alt text. We are reviewing.
- PDF documents (if any are added in future) may not yet be tagged for full screen-reader support. We will tag them before publishing.
Compatibility
The site is tested on the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. It is designed to work with common assistive technologies including VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack, and the Windows / macOS built-in screen magnifier and keyboard navigation.
